It doesn't necessarily say anything about our education per-se, but rather how easily we as a society are entertained. A children's book (7th grade is still a child in my opinion) should not capture the attention it has. Instead, it indicates how simplified entertainment has to be for a mass of folks to like it....

Ah that's a crock of shit...I stands by the fact that adults, well educated or not should be able to find something a little 'older' to read. Something that touches on a) real life, and b) adult situations....

It is amazing what you come up with when you have spent a little time with children;)

I believe the average American reads at a 5th grade level which is a problem that the govt should take very seriously. However, Harry Potter ,according to my children's school, is at a 7th grade reading level.

I started reading the books mainly because my son was reading it and the first movie was coming out at the time. I actually enjoyed the book and continued reading the entire series. I have a higher reading level than that of a 7th grader and do not think less of myself because I enjoy a book that was initially targeted to teenagers. Everyone has different interests and different types of books that they enjoy. The Harry Potter series is well written and quite interesting if you like to escape from reality for a while. I know several well-educated adults such as myself that read it as well.
